The Experience

Our organic farm is a Sustainable Living Project initiated by a small group of people in Thailand. It is run by Pinan Jim (who was a Buddhist Monk for 16 years) and his wife Pinan Tea Kumsrisom who own the 10 acres where the project take place. I had a great week and was welcomed very kindly by Jim. I really liked this simple and rustic life. I did some weeding in the garden at my own pace and helped with the cooking. I learned a lot about myself and about Lanna culture. I also went to the nearest village school and was able to take part in the English class for 2 mornings. the English teacher is adorable and the students very the eco village with this exchange. If other volunteers want to go it's really interesting. Jim is an exciting host and very respectful of everyone.I had a great week and was welcomed very kindly by Jim. I really

My trip was for about a week in Dec 2023. like others also mentioned, you will be welcomed by a hug :). one can reach there using a taxi or public bus, its about 1.5 hrs from airport nestled in the mountains so good cold weather in the mornings and post sunset. i helped in the farm digging , sowing and see the lettuces sapling grow. one can offer help in fetching bamboo from the jungle or building. Pinan Jim and family Pinan Tea and the young boy are knowledgeable and welcoming. Watch my playlist and see the photos. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG3L_mOkH9TGGiuJIRpfMjtas9VUKL1L7

I'm glad I went to this farm, it was a beautiful area, with a nice town to walk around in nearby. I learned a lot in my time there, and I think coming in without many expectations was helpful because I was able to stay flexible. Pinan Jim was a kind host, providing a simple but nice sleeping area, and teaching us how to cook local food over many hours. My friend and I are both vegan and were so thankful that Pinan Jim was able to accommodate this. We had many interesting conversations, and I think coming in with an open mind is definitely important.

Pinan Jim is passionate about sharing his Lanna culture with Westerners who have probably never heard of it. He is a wonderful cook and his favourite things to teach are Lanna food, herbal medicines and how to play guitar Lanna style! If you are lucky and ask nicely you might even get a cup of coffee in the mornings 😉 I loved my bamboo hut and it was so nice to forage leaves and berries in the garden and then use them for cooking. There is a river to swim in if you don't want to shower with a bucket and even a big beautiful lake only 5 minutes walk away.

I really enjoyed my stay at the eco village! I really loved learning about the Lanna culture, and really enjoyed learning about their cooking and music. Pinan Jim was so accommodating to my friend and I's vegan diet, and cooked us some of the best food I've ever had. Pinan Jim taught me so much in my short time there, and had so much more knowledge I wish I could have learned. I went into the experience with really no expectations and I ended really satisfied with my time there.
